For the Marines' 241st Birthday, we pushed the client to do something totally different for them. We worked with cake designers from famed Charm City Cakes in Baltimore to create a hand-painted cake celebrating the history of the Marine Corps to present to their Ball in Washington, D.C. We wanted each tier to represent the jurisdiction of the Marines - sea, land, and air, and were very careful to make sure all elements were historically accurate.
Not only was this fun to make, and exciting to see how appreciative the Marines at the ball were, but it was extremely successful. The cake video reached more than 6.5 million users, was viewed over 2 million times, and most importantly reached a majority audience of women 25-34, something that no Marines video had previously done. In total, the USMC birthday posts we created had a reach of over 23 million.
The video was so successful, and we got such a great reaction from the USMC that we made a longer-version with a pop-up video concept to show the history of the Marines shown in this cake.
This video also performed extremely well, and we unveiled it the week of the Marines' Birthday.
